The BBQ in DBQ’s 1st birthday took place on September 22, 2012. This event came to be as a result of a 2011 Dubuque Human Rights Commission Goal Setting Meeting. The Goal was simply community bonding and what better way to do that than food and fun with the best part being FREE.
Miquel Jackson took on the roll of project lead in 2012 and have continued to do so going into the 5th annual community BBQ.
The BBQ each year is centered around the International Day of Peace which is always September 21st, so the BBQ is held either the weekend before or after depending on which is closest.
Clarke University (where the event is held each year) has done a wonderful job opening up its arms to the BBQ in DBQ as well as the community.
After 3 years under the Human Rights Commission guidance, the BBQ in DBQ is now a running committee of various organization representatives including Clarke University, Dubuque Police Department, LuLac, and the lead sponsor being Dubuque Branch NAACP with Miquel Jackson (Vice President) as Project Lead and RRS Stewart (Treasurer) as Treasurer.
This year’s event will be held at Clarke University’s Kehl Center on Saturday September 24, 2016 from 2-6pm. For more information on how to be a part of this event or if you would like to sponsor please email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Words from Project Leader
I would like to thank everyone on the committee for attending the meetings and working diligently to ensure that the BBQ in DBQ continues existing and serving its purpose of bringing the Dubuque Community closer together. I would also like to thank Clarke University and those who sponsor, whom without none of this would be possible.
