Donna Smith and Tom Hancock emerged from a crowded Democratic primary election field Tuesday for the Dubuque County Board of Supervisors, though totals were tight among the top vote-getters.

In the unofficial results Tuesday, Smith received 2,680 votes, leading the seven Democrats vying for two open seats. Hancock garnered 2,521 votes, earning a slight edge over the next highest vote-getter, Dave Baker, who received 2,477 votes. [Read more at THonline.com]

With a victory in Tuesday's primary elections, Democrat Abby Finkenauer is poised to succeed her legislative mentor as the representative for Iowa House District 99. Finkenauer received 1,261 votes, good for 58 percent of the vote and the right to vie for the District 99 seat in the Nov. 4 general elections. Her challenger, Steve Drahozal, collected 921 votes.
